More than 60% women in 15-49 year age-group in West Bengal are anaemic, says National Family Health Survey

Kolkata, Jan 28 (IBNS): More than 60 percent women in the 15-49 year age-group in West Bengal suffer from anaemia, reveals the National Family Health Survey 2015-2016.

The National Family Health Survey 2015-2016 (NFHS-4), a large-scale, multi-round survey conducted in a representative sample of households throughout India, has reported that over 60% women in West Bengal in the 15-49 year age-group  are anaemic.

NFHS-4 found 62.5% women in the said age group were anaemic,

The latest numbers are a marginal improvement (down 1%) over the  the NFHS-3 (2005-2006) figures of 63.2%.

The percentage of pregnant women 15-49 year age-group  who were anaemic was 53.6.

The NFHS-4 also revealed that more than half the children under 5 years were still anaemic in West Bengal.
