Mumbai/IBNS: In an increase in infections by 33 percent, Mumbai, the financial capital of India with a heavy international footfall, reported over 20,000 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, media reports said.

In the same span of time, four people died apparently due to the virus in the city.

Of the fresh cases reported in Mumbai, 85 percent are asymptomatic.

1,170 COVID-19 patients have been hospitalised in the city.

Days ago, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar had said lockdown will likely be called if the daily cases cross the 20,000-mark.

"We will have to impose a lockdown in Mumbai if daily COVID cases cross the 20,000-mark," Pednekar said.
