Registration for human clinical trial of Covaxin at AIIMS begins

New Delhi/UNI: Registration for the human clinical trial of indigenously-developed Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin, started in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on Monday.

AIIMS, Delhi, which is among 12 institutes selected by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) for conducting phase I and II human trials of the vaccine, started the registration process of enrolling healthy individuals as volunteers for the human trials of Covaxin.

As many as 100 volunteers of the about 375 volunteers who will be administered the drug during phase I will be from AIIMS.

The first dose of the vaccine is likely to be administered to the volunteers this Thursday, according to Dr Sanjay Rai, Principal Investigator for conducting these trials at AIIMS Delhi.

On Saturday, AIIMS's Ethics Committee gave clearance for conducting human clinical trials of the much-awaited vaccine, reports here said.
