Tamil Nadu tests over 60 lakh samples for COVID-19, case tally rises to 5.14 Lakh

Chennai/UNI: Tamil Nadu crossed yet another significant milestone of testing over 60 lakh samples by RT-PCR for COVID-19 on Tuesday.

A cumulative total of 60,48,832 samples have been tested till date of which 80,623 samples being tested in the last 24 hours, according to a data released by the Health department in its bulletin this evening.

The State reported 5,697 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 5,14,208, while 68 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 8,502.

The bulletin said of the 68 deaths, 40 were reported in government hospitals and 28 in private hospitals.

The total number of active cases stood at 46,806.

A total of 5,735 patients were discharged in the day, taking the count of recovered cases to 4,58,900.

Chennai recorded 989 fresh cases today, taking the city’s caseload to 1,50,572 while the death toll crossed 3,000-mark to reach 3,004 with 12 more fatalities.
