Kanchanaburi, May 31 (IBNS): Several tigers have been rescued and transferred during raids conducted by officials at the Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi’s Sai Yok district in Thailand on Monday, media reports said on Tuesday.

The move was made by authority amid accusations of wildlife trafficking and animal abuse.

"It was the first batch of 137 tigers that the National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department has planned to take away from Wat Pa Luangta Maha Bua Yannasam-panno, more widely known as the Tiger Temple," The Nation reported.

Department’s deputy director Adisorn Noochdumrong was quoted as saying by the newspaper:"We are trying to solve the problems step by step."
Adisorn  led the operation.

According to reports, he had a search warrant from Kanchanaburi Provincial Court.

"Most of the tigers will be sent to the Khaoson and Khao Prathap Chang breeding centres in Ratchaburi province," The Nation reported.
