Two more Assam MLAs tested positive for COVID-19, state tally surges to 57,714

Guwahati/IBNS: Two more MLAs of BJP and AIUDF of Assam have tested positive for COVID-19.

So far, nine MLAs of the state have tested positive for the novel Coronavirus.

According to the Assam state health department, AIUDF MLA of Algapur constituency Nizamuddin Choudhury and eight members of his family tested positive for the new virus.

Nizamuddin Choudhury is currently in home isolation.

On the other hand, BJP MLA Mihir Kanti Shome has also tested positive for the virus.

The doctors have collected samples of the other family members of Mihir Kanti Shome – who is representing Udharbond constituency in Cachar district.

Earlier, seven MLAs of the state including the Deputy Speaker of Assam assembly have tested positive for the new virus.

Assam has so far registered 57,714 positive cases for the deadly virus and 40,591 patients have cured and discharged from hospitals.

The state has now 16,980 active positive cases for COVID-19.
