London/IBNS: The United Kingdom on Wednesday reported 106,122 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, the first time the daily figure has topped 100,000, amid the massive spread of the Omicron variant.

The UK is one of Europe's worst hit nations by the virus with 147,573 deaths since the pandemic struck. It has more than 11 million positive cases.

Amid the spread, the government is urging the public to get the booster jabs.

More than 30 million have received boosters so far, said reports.

Meanwhile, the UK regulators on Wednesday approved Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine for use on children aged five to 11.
