Kolkata, June 25 (IBNS) Ved Vignan Mahavidyapeeth De-Addiction & Research Centre working since last 10 years on people suffering from chemical abuse Wednesday hosted a campaign on the eve of the International Day against Drug Abuse.
This  project is inspired by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the founder of The Art of Living. The motto of the organization is that “Alcohol and Drugs is truly a curse to society. We should all come forward to tackle this menace to the best of our abilities.”

Tapan K Banerjee, Director, V. V. M. De-Addiction & Research Centre said, “10 people from Punjab & UP (Agra) are coming at our Centre (VVMDRC) to receive 3 days of residential training and then to work in their respective areas. We intend to train as many people as possible so that Awareness reaches too many homes including villages which may help people to avoid addiction on Alcohol & Drugs.”

The organizers said at the micro level, Alcohol and Drug Abuse breed hatred, jealousy and violence, lowers self-image, causes financial stresses, emotional trauma and tears families apart. These manifest further at the macro level by destabilizing peace and harmony in the society and nation at large. In India, the problem of addiction is further aggravated by the lack of treatment and rehabilitation facilities.
