West Bengal: Like last year, no entry to Durga Puja pandals for visitors

Kolkata/IBNS: Like last year, no visitor will be allowed inside the Durga Puja pandals in West Bengal in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, media reports said.

The Calcutta High Court said this in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed before the Division Bench seeking reinforcement of the last year's restrictions.

When asked by the court to respond, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government said it has no objection to the restrictions.

Apart from the organisers, no visitor will be allowed to enter within 10 metres from a pandal.

The state government Thursday extended anti-COVID-19 restrictions in the state for another month but lifted the night curfew, which prohibits movement of people and vehicles from 11 pm to 5 am, from Oct 10 to 20 in view of the festival.

The eastern Indian state added 749 new COVID-19 cases including 149 from the capital city Kolkata and 15 deaths Thursday.
