WHO: Japan backs Taiwan’s quest for observer status

| @indiablooms | Feb 08, 2021, at 04:00 pm

Taipei: Japan seems to be backing Taiwan's fight to join World Health Organization (WHO) as the nation said the region should not continue to be excluded from the organization at this time of COVID-19 pandemic.

Japanese officials made the remark during the Asian-Pacific Parliamentarians’ Union (APPU).

Eleven countries reportedly participated in the event this year via video conferencing.

The Taiwanese delegation emphasized the country’s experience with the 2003 SARS epidemic and highlighted its rapid and transparent response to the coronavirus and the solidarity amongst citizens. The interplay of those factors resulted in a Taiwanese virus-prevention model that has received praise around the world, the delegation said as quoted by Taiwan News.
