Atlas: OpenAI launches its own browser. Who can access it?

OpenAI, the company that created major disruption in the tech world by introducing ChatGPT, has launched its own web browser named Atlas, challenging Google, which operates Chrome.

The company made the browser available for Apple's MacOS operating system on Tuesday.

Introducing the browser, OpenAI chief Sam Altman wrote on X: "Our new AI-first web browser, ChatGPT Atlas, is here for macOS."

"Please send feedback! Availability on other platforms to follow," he further said.

In a statement issued on its website, OpenAI elaborated the manner in which the browser remains different from others by saying: "As you use Atlas, ChatGPT can get smarter and more helpful, too. Browser memories let ChatGPT remember context from the sites you visit and bring that context back when you need it."

OpenAI said browser memories in Atlas are completely optional and the users are in control over it.

"ChatGPT can also do work for you in Atlas using agent mode, with improvements that make it faster and more useful by working with your browsing context," the website said.

"It’s now better at researching and analyzing, automating tasks, and planning events or booking appointments while you browse," the website said.

OpenAI said Agent mode in Atlas is available from Tuesday in preview for Plus, Pro, and Business users.

"Atlas is also available in beta for Business, and if enabled by their plan administrator, for Enterprise and Edu users," the company said.

The tech major said the browser will soon be available for  Windows, iOS, and Android users.
