Barbeque Nation introduces special Durga Puja menu at its Kolkata outlets

Kolkata, Oct 5 (IBNS): Researching about the local palate and adjusting the culinary style accordingly is one of the key features of Barbeque Nation, said Suman Mukherjee, Senior Cluster Manager of the pan-India restaurant chain that unveiled a special Puja menu at its Kolkata outlet on Monday.

Durga Puja is one of the biggest festivals in the city where people love to indulge in gastronomic excess and to meet their demands, Barbeque Nation has launched a special buffet menu, priced around Rs 1100 for the non-vegetarian spread. The vegetarian spread is priced a tad over Rs 900.

The special buffet will be available between Oct 6 and 12, 2016.

The menu highlights include Bengali dishes such as ‘shorshe bhapa ilish’ or steamed hilsa in mustard sauce, ‘chingri malaikari’ or prawns in coconut-milk gravy, ‘kosha mangsho’ or spicy mutton curry and of course Bengal’s signature sweets, ‘rosogolla’ and ‘misti doi’.

“This menu is specially created for Kolkata where we have two outlets, one on Park Street and one in Salt Lake,” said Md. Jamshed Khan, Marketing Coordinator.

Along with the headliner dishes, there will be Barbeque Nation’s own regular spread, especially its kebabs. It was this restaurant chain that probably was the first to introduce live grills embedded in the dining table so that you can have the kebabs right off the skewers, with no chance of the kebabs getting cold while being served.

“We have a standardised recipe that is used in all our outlets pan-India for our choice of kebabs, so that guests can have a seamless experience no matter which city they are visiting,” said Executive Chef Sudip Halder.

Barbeque Nation maintains a balance between its all-India culinary spread and the local palate, said Suman Mukherjee. “The menu outline remains the same but there are subtle modifications in keeping with the local preference. We may use more of mustard seeds or coconut flavour, may be even add a dash of sugar to some dishes, which may not be so in other cities.”

“Biryani is a popular dish. But biryani in Kolkata is not the same that you get in Delhi or Mumbai. Our expertise lies in fusing the global with the local,” added Executive Chef Halder.

For Puja hoppers, Barbeque Nation has another good news. They are accepting table reservations in advance, which means you do not have to stand in a long queue on the festive days.
