Bikers’ rally upholds the cause of child education

Kolkata, Aug 15 (IBNS): A lazy Sunday morning of the mid-monsoon suddenly turned into vibrant yellow, as the Russel Street area woke up to the rumble of 32 Royal Enfield bullets, with riders cruising from there to the Victoria Memorial, pushing further to the Exide crossing, and finally concluding their ride at Deshapriya Park.

The bikers’ rally was organized by CRY volunteers in collaboration with The Eastern Bulls, to extend support to Sudipto Pal, a young and enthusiastic super randonneur, who is undertaking a solo Trans-Himalayan Ride for Child Rights to raise awareness and also funds for the cause of education with CRY – Child Rights and You.

Over 30 bikers from The Eastern Bulls and a bunch volunteers from CRY, all clad in brilliant yellow T-shirts and waving banners of School The Spark campaign, came together to make the event all success.

Faizal, on behalf of the bikers’ community said, “The Eastern Bulls has a social responsibility towards such causes, and as children are the future of our nation, we always put them at the top of our agenda. We also believe that apart from building awareness through such events, working on-ground should also be in focus. On a long term basis, it would be fantastic to be associated with CRY initiatives such as these.”

Welcoming the volunteers’ initiative, Sweta Bhattacharya from CRY said, “We strongly believe in the strength of the youth coming together to bring lasting change in the lives of children. Our volunteers and the bikers from The Eastern Bulls are inspirational examples of how passionately the Indian youth can engage with the cause of child rights. Their ride will not only help generate awareness around the importance of education in the lives of children, but also help raise funds to ensure that thousands of children get their right to education.

In an effort to ensure children’s education, CRY has launched a national campaign, School The Spark, focusing on the challenges faced by children in accessing their basic right to education. The campaign is targeted to impact lives of 2.5 lac children (6-18 years), with the first phase focusing on 79,744 children (11-14 years) do not drop out of school, and explore the potential of their abilities remains unexplored.

The campaign has commenced on 15 July 2016, with an accomplished mountaineer and long distance cyclist, Sudipto Pal, undertaking a trans- Himalayan Solo cycling trip of 5000 km, from Srinagar (J&K) to Walong (Arunachal Pradesh) in 120 days. Throughout his expedition,
he will be communicating with communities living in these unfriendly terrains, and will try to understand what stops children in these areas from accessing education- he has already covered 2500 km in his quest for the same.

Sudipto has already crossed the halfway mark of his 5000km journey.
