NEISSR Fest concludes with a call to empower women and society

Dimapur/Nagaland: The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) held a closing ceremony for NEISSR Fest on May 5 at Peace Centre Hall, Chümoukedima under the theme ‘Engage, Energize, Evolve’.

The event was organized by the Students’ Council for Social Change (SCSC) NEISSR in collaboration with the Peace Forum, Youth Forum, Community Forum, and IQAC cell, that ran for five days starting from May 1 to 5, reported The Morung Express.

Dr. Fr CP Anto, Principal NEISSR, welcomed and commended M Yimok Phom and her team for their unwavering efforts towards empowering women in Nagaland during his opening address.

He also shared that the students of the institute are trained to become professional social doctors who will address the social disorders and diseases prevalent in society. 

He envisaged future prospects of working collaboratively with NSRLM to empower women and society as a whole. 

Dr. Anto highlighted the institute's unique character as NEISSR is the first institute to introduce Peace and Conflict Transformation studies specialization and the second to provide Youth development specialization in the country.

The institute also offers a specialization in Community development, along with two new specializations in Public health and Social Entrepreneurship, in addition to the two aforementioned specializations.

M Yimok Phom, ADPM, NSLRM, DMMU, DRDA, Dimapur Nagaland, emphasized that the mission of social work students is not limited to desk work but to engage with people in the field and understand the challenges present in society. 

She encouraged the students to be visionary leaders as it would provide them with additional knowledge, qualifications, and motivation.

Furthermore, she urged them to believe in themselves and leave a positive impact that will last long after graduation.

Various activities were organized by the different forums during the festival, such as storytelling, sketch competitions, motivation talks, open competitions, cosplay, and indigenous games.
