Kolkata/IBNS: Starmark, an Emami Group venture, has successfully forayed into publishing of graphic novels based on the works of celebrated Bengali writers.

It has already published The Ghost of Gossain Bagan, The King of the Green Island, Incredible Splendour, The Boxer, Chakrapurer Chakkare ( in English and Bengali) and now its latest title Pagla Sahib’s Grave will be launched in the presence of Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay at Starmark, South City Mall at 5: 30 pm on Nov 9.

The illustrations have been created by Harsho Mohan Chattoraj, with Shuvorup Bhattacharjee’s script and Arundhati Gupta’s text/editing.

Published by Starmark, this graphic novel is priced at Rs. 249.

Gautam Jatia, CEO, Starmark, says “Bengali literature has a very rich heritage, and we wanted to introduce these evergreen stories to a larger readership base. Hence, we thought that bringing out these in a graphic format, would appeal to more people, especially youngsters who would, in time, be enthused to read the original works as well.

We have already published Ghost of Gossain Bagan, Incredible Splendour, The Boxer, Chakrapurer Chakkare,  and now we are releasing Pagla Sahib’s Grave. Other titles are also in the pipeline.”

About Pagla Sahib’s Grave

Horibondhu is sent away from home to Motigunj for admission into another school as he repeatedly fails in his school exams. Starting from the stern, robot-like and unfriendly caretaker at his new residence ’Kusumkunj’, Horibondhu finds himself surrounded by stange people. From the very first day at school, he encounters a series of violent incidence, and experiences mysterious happenings.

Amongst all this Pagla Sahib looms large as the prime haunting personality. Mystery deepens as Horibondhu, with the help of the notorious Patal Das, enters the forbidden tunnel.

Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay himself said, “Written many years ago, Pagla Sabiber Kabor bears traces from my childhood days. I was not only a naughty child, but a mediocre student as well! Horibondhu is interested in everything other than studies. My parents, however, never scolded me.

Pagla Sahiber Kabor was written with the prime intention of providing entertainment to my young readers, where mysterious settings, a lovable thief and a ghost would form the basis for adventure and fun. Even the ghost in this story has a spiritual quality which ultimately helps in wiping out evil”.
