Assembly polls in Maharashtra, Haryana: All Updates

For the first time since the conclusion of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Opposition will have face-off in an electoral battle in Maharashtra and Haryana as the assembly polls in the two states are underway on Monday. While the BJP is eyeing an easy return to power, the Opposition, mainly the Congress is trying to make a comeback particularly after its devastating Lok Sabha poll results.

Low voter turnout continues in Maharashtra, Haryana

Till 2 pm, 30.8% and 37.2% of total voters have cast their votes in Maharashtra and Haryana respectively, media reports said.

Sachin Tendulkar casts vote with family

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar along with his wife Anjali and son Arjun casted vote in Mumbai. After casting his vote, Tendulkar said, "I urge all eligible voters, particularly the young generation, to cast their votes for a better future."

 

People have decided to defeat even a shadow of corruption: Prakash Javadekar

Casting his vote in Maharashtra, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said, "The BJP will win by a big margin. People have voted for a change in the two Lok Sabha polls and will do so in this assembly elections as well. People have decided to defeat even a shadow of corruption."

Shiv Sena leaders Uddhav and Aaditya Thackeray have casted their votes. Breaking the convention of the Thackeray family, Aaditya is contesting the elections as a Sena candidate from Maharashtra's Worli.

Indian wrestler and BJP candidate from Haryana's Dadri Babita Kumari Phogat casted her vote. 

Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar casts his vote

Haryana Chief Minister and BJP leader Manohar Lal Khattar casted his vote early in the morning. 

 

Low voter turnout till 10 am

Only 5.8% and 8.9% of voters turned out to cast their votes till 10 am in Maharashtra and Haryana respectively.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari casted their votes.
