Lucknow/IBNS: In a horrific incident, a 13-year-old girl was raped and killed in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district and her body found in a sugarcane field, the police said on Saturday.

Two men from her village have been arrested in connection with the case.

According to the girl's father, the victim was strangled with a dupatta, her eyes gouged out and her tongue was cut.

The incident took place on Friday at a village around 130 km from Lucknow, close to the Nepal border.

Her body was found in the fields of one of the accused.

The UP Police, however, said, the post-mortem report did not show her eyes were gouged out or tongue cut.

The autopsy confirmed rape and strangulation.

"We went looking for her everywhere. Found her in the sugarcane field. Her eyes had been gouged out. Her tongue was cut and strangled with a dupatta," the father of the girl was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati condemned the incident and called it "extremely shameful".

"What is the difference between the governments of the Samajwadi Party and the present BJP if such incidents keep happening?" she tweeted, attacking the Yogi Adityanath administration.

Last week, a six-year-old girl was kidnapped and raped in Western Uttar Pradesh's Hapur.

The child was kidnapped from outside her house in Garh Mukteshwar, less than 100 km from Delhi by the accused on a motorcycle.

She was found unconscious and soaked in blood behind bushes not far from her village and was treated in a hospital in Meerut. A medical examination had confirmed rape.
