16 people killed in Arunachal Pradesh road mishap

Guwahati, May 22 (IBNS) : At least 16 people were killed and one critically injured when the vehicle in which they were traveling skidded off from the road and fell into a deep gorge in Arunachal Pradesh’s West Kameng district on Sunday, officials said.

The incident occurred at around 12-35 pm, when a pick-up vehicle carrying 17 people, travelled on its way to Boha village skidded off from the road and fell into a deep gorge at Betchiling area under Kalaktang sub-division.

Arunchal Pradesh government officials confirmed that 16 people died and one was critically injured in the mishap.

Top officials of the police, district administration and rescue team rushed to the spot of the mishap.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Kalikho Pul had expressed deep shock over the deaths and announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh to the injured person.
