1993 Mumbai blast convict Yakub Memon buried in Mumbai amid high security

Mumbai, July 30 (IBNS): The body of Yakub Memon, who was hanged on Thursday morning in Nagpur Central Jail, was buried in a graveyard in Mahim in Mumbai amid heavy security.
Reports said Memon's body was handed over to his family soon after the formalities were completed at the jail.

Heavy security in Mumbai prevented any untoward incident.

Yakub's body was buried at the Bada Kabristan in Marine Lines, where his father had also been buried.

The authorities had earlier given conditions to Memon's family that  the burial should be a low key affair and must be completed in a stipulated time.

The execution of Memon, a convict in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, was carried out shortly after a Supreme Court bench rejected a petition against his death.

Memon was the first and the only convict out of 100 in the case.  The death sentences for  11 others have been commuted so far.
