2G accused Dayanidhi Maran files nomination

Chennai, Apr 5 (IBNS): Former Union Minister and senior Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Dayanidhi Maran, who was an accused in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, on Saturday filed his nomination papers for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Chennai Central Lok Sabha constituency.

Maran is the grand-nephew of DMK supremo M Karunanidhi.

He was quizzed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2011 over the 2G spectrum scam case.

Maran resigned from the Union Cabinet in July 2011 over the 2G scam.

It was alleged that Maran as the Telecom Minister during his 2004 to 2007 tenure had 'deliberately' delayed licence to telecom company Aircel and misused his office to force Aircel sell the entire stake in the company to Malaysia-based Maxis Communication owned by T Anandakrishnan, who is reportedly close to his family.
