5-phased polling in J&K, Jharkhand

New Delhi, Oct 25 (IBNS): The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday announced that Assembly polls in Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir will be held in five phases between Nov 25 and Dec 20.

The counting of votesin both the states will take place on Dec 23.

In a press conference, Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath said polling in both the states will held on Nov 25, Dec 2, 9, 14 and 20.

"The Model Code of Conduct comes into effect immediately from now onwards. All the provisions of the Model Code will apply to the whole of poll going States and will be applicable to all candidates, political parties, the State Governments of Jharkhand & Jammu & Kashmir. The Model Code of Conduct shall be applicable to the Union Govt. for the States concerned," Sampath said.

On the other hand, bye-elections to three assembly seats in Delhi will be held held on Nov 25.

"There are three clear vacancies from the 45-Mehrauli, 52-Tuglakabad and 60- Krishna Nagar Assembly Constituencies in the Legislative Assembly of NCT of Delhi, which are required to be filled up," the ECI said in a statement.

Counting of votes will be held on Dec 23.
