New Delhi/Port Blair, Dec 7 (IBNS): About 800 tourists are stranded in Andamans' tourist magnet Havelock Island owing to storm as the Indian Navy has engaged itself in a rescue mission, defence sources said.

"#HADR Indian Navy swings in 2 [to]  action 2 [to] evacuate 800 stranded tourists at Havelock Is[land]. 4 ships sailed ex Port Blair & in area," tweeted the Indian Navy.

Reports said the administration in Andamans had sought the help of Navy after heavy rainfall in Havelock.

Navy ships INS Bitra, Bangaram, Kumbhir and LCU 38 have been pressed into service to rescue the tourists, said reports.

Details are awaited.
