AAI suspend arrivals at Chennai airport till 1800 hrs, two Intl flights cancelled, 6 domestic flights diverted

Chennai/UNI: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) today said arrival of flights at the Chennai airport will remain suspended till 1800 hrs due to severe rains and heavy crosswinds, even as two international flights were cancelled and six domestic flights were diverted.

In a tweet, the AAI said the decision has been taken considering the safety aspect of passengers and severity of the wind. 

However, the departure of flights will continue from the airport.

Meanwhile, eight international flights to and from Chennai were cancelled today due to heavy rains.

Airport sources said four flights from Dubai and Sharjah which were scheduled to arrive and depart later has been cancelled.

Airport officials also announced diversion of six flights to various destinations as they could not land here due to rains and poor visibility.

Two Spicejet flights from Mumbai and New Delhi were diverted to Hyderabad and Bengaluru respectively as they could not land due to heavy rain and strong winds.

Later, four more flights from Kochi, Mumbai, Delhi and Madurai were also diverted to Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
