New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday made a pitch for self-reliant India as he addressed the 74th edition of his monthly radio address 'Mann Ki Baat'.

Urging people to make India self-reliant or "Atmanirbhar", PM Modi said: "When people feel proud of indigenous products then Aatmanirbhar Bharat does not just remain economic programme but becomes national spirit."

"Aatmanirbhar Bharat is not merely government efforts. It is the national spirit of India," the Prime Minister said.

Modi also quoted Sant Ravidas during his address to invoke people to become self-reliant, who according to the PM spoke directly and honestly about various issues. "He was fearless," the PM added.

"Sant Ravidas Ji taught us- keep working, do not expect anything...when this is done there will be satisfaction. He taught people to go beyond conventional thinking," said he.

"Sant Ravidas Ji did not want people dependant on others. He wanted everyone to be independent and innovative," he added.

Modi also touched on various issues concerning the nation including coronavirus, employment generation, water conservation among others.

PM Modi said, "This is the best time to think about water conservation in the summer months ahead."

The Prime Minister announced Jal Shakti Ministry will soon launch the campaign ''Catch the Rain''.

He also applauded commendable work by temples of Assam towards environmental conservation.
