Afghanistan FM arrives in India, to hold talks with External Affairs Minister
New Delhi/UNI: Afghanistan Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar arrived here on Monday on a three-day visit to hold talks with External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and other senior government officials on the Afghan peace process.

Look forward to holding talks with FM @DrSJaishankar & senior govt officials of India on Afghan PeaceProcess, upcoming regional forums on peace & development in Afghanistan, security & economic cooperation," Mr Atmar tweeted moments after he landed here.

Mr Atmar's visit holds importance as US has announced May 1 as a deadline to remove all its troops from the war-torn country, under an agreement signed with the Taliban last year.
The Afghan Foreign Ministry said that Mr Atmar and his accompanying delegation would discuss bilateral relations, strengthen regional and international consensus on the Afghan peace process, and enhance cooperation in security, economic, political and cultural areas.
His visit comes after US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin's visit to New Delhi and Kabul where he discussed with official Washington's plan to withdraw troops from the conflict-wracked South Asian country.
The Afghan foreign minister will meet National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and exchange views on a range of issues of common interest between the two countries.
The Afghan Ministry added that the Foreign Minister will also meet former ambassadors of India to Afghanistan, students, businessmen, Afghan-Hindu representatives and a number of Afghan refugees living in India.
