Kabul, Feb 16 (IBNS): Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani has condemned the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir which left at least 40 CRPF jawans killed on Thursday.

"President @AshrafGhani strongly condemns the terrorist attack that targeted CRPF personnel in Jammu & Kashmir. The government of AFG expresses its sympathy and deep condolences to the Indian government and people, and the families of the soldiers who fell victim to the incident," read a post issued by the official Twitter page of the President.

Ghani described 'terrorism' as 'cancer' in the region.

" Terrorism is a cancer in the region, and it requires collective efforts to root it out," he said.

Country's former President Hamid Karzai also joined in condemning the incident and tweeted: "I strongly condemn the terrorist attacks in Jammu & Kashmir of India & Zahedan, Iran, that caused casualties to military personnel of our neighborly countries. As I have always said, unless the countries in the region cooperate in fight against the menace of terrorism, it will....continue to further bleed the whole region."

Dark Thursday in Kashmir:

In one of the worst terror attacks on security personnel in recent times, at least 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were martyred and 14 others injured when a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant rammed an IED laden vehicle into the forces' convoy at Awantipora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Thursday afternoon.

Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) has claimed responsibility for the Fidayeen (suicide) attack even as India slammed Pakistan for giving full freedom to the militant group in its territory to prepare for attacking Indian securitymen.
