After defeat in Sunday's clash, Pakistani Foreign Minister pitches for more matches with India

Islamabad, June 17 (IBNS): Pakistan's Foreign Minister  Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan and Indian team should play bilateral cricket for the larger interest of the game, media reports said.

Talking to the media on his arrival at the Old Trafford stadium today (Sunday), he said Cricket is very popular in the sub-continent and Prime Minister Imran gave new identity to the game of cricket in Pakistan, said Radio Pakistan's report.

The Minister visited Manchester to watch the game on Sunday.

About chances of cricket with India, Qureshi said there is no immediate chance as India is shy of talks with Pakistan these days, reported Radio Pakistan.

He expressed the hope that India would play cricket against Pakistan, adding that it was vital for the promotion of the game in the region as well as across the globe, it said.

India defeated Pakistan by 89 runs, via D/L method, in the match.

The match in Manchester was touched by high sentiment this time as relationship between India and Pakistan reached new low earlier this year following the Pulwama strike.

In Pulwama a terror attack on Feb 14 left 40 Indian paramilitary forces personnel killed.

Pakistan-based Jaish had claimed responsibility for it.

In retaliation, Indian Air Force planes entered Pakistan on February 26, the first time in nearly five decades, to bomb a Jaish facility.

Amid escalating tension between India and Pakistan, Abhinandan Varthaman was taken into custody earlier this year after his MiG-21 jet was downed during an engagement along the Line of Control (LoC).

Pakistan later released him.
