Ahmedabad airport waterlogged after heavy rains pound Gujarat; passengers brave knee-deep water

The western state has been experiencing heavy downpours for several days, leading to a flood-like situation in the state.

Videos shared on Twitter show the extent of the flooding, with passengers wading through water to reach their flights on time.

The airport authorities have urged passengers to contact their respective airlines before commencing their journey to check the status of their flights.

Passengers have been also advised to avoid parking at the airport facility due to waterlogging.

Airport officials are working tirelessly to maintain smooth operations despite the challenging conditions, donning water-protective equipment to navigate the flooded areas.

However, the situation has posed major inconvenience to travelers, who are facing difficulties reaching their destinations on time.

"Due to heavy rains and water logging around the airport, we request all passengers to check with their respective airlines before starting their journey. Passengers are also advised to avoid parking at the airport facility," the Ahmedabad airport said in a tweet.

As Gujarat continues to grapple with heavy rainfall and flooding, authorities are monitoring the situation closely to ensure the safety and well-being of all airport personnel and passengers.

"Now airplane will not fly from Ahmedabad airport but ship will run...Ahmedabad International Airport flooded due to #HeavyRains," a Twitter user wrote taking a dig at the water-logged airport.

Over the past 48 hours, non-stop rainfall has caused widespread waterlogging across the city, causing a major disruption to daily life.

The rising water levels have particularly affected airport operations, resulting in a standstill situation.

Thousands of passengers have been left stranded as the airport infrastructure has been severely impacted by the flooding.

Ahmedabad city experienced a deluge on Saturday evening, with a staggering 101 mm of rainfall pouring down within a span of just two hours. The intense downpour led to severe flooding on city roads and residential areas, causing inconvenience and disruption to daily life.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather warning for parts of Gujarat. Heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall, is expected in the south Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch districts until Sunday morning.

A red alert has been specifically issued for Junagadh, Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, Kutch, Surat, Valsad, Navsari, and Surat. These areas may experience intense precipitation, which can lead to flooding and other related hazards. Additionally, many other districts in south Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch will also witness heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next three days, according to the IMD.
