Amit Shah counters Rahul Gandhi's 'Murder of Democracy' comment over Yeddyurappa's swearing-in as Karnataka CM

In a latest tweet, Shah said: "The ‘Murder of Democracy’ happens the minute a desperate Congress made an ‘opportunist’ offer to the JD(S), not for Karnataka’s welfare but for their petty political gains. Shameful!"

Shah has hinted at a post-poll understanding between the Congress and the JD(S).

The BJP president also stated that it is the BJP which has the people's mandate as the saffron outfit bagged 104 seats, emerging as the single largest party in the state.

Shah had tweeted earlier, "Who has the people’s mandate in Karnataka? The BJP, which has won 104 seats. Or Congress which dropped to 78 seats, whose own CM and Ministers lost by big margins. JD(S) who won only 37 seats and lost their deposits on several others. People are wise to realise."

He has also referred to the Emergency rule which was called by the Congress government in 1975.

Shah tweeted, "President of the Congress obviously doesn’t remember the glorious history of his party. The legacy of Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s Party is the horrific Emergency, blatant misuse of Article 356, subverting the courts, media and civil society."

Rahul attacked the BJP and said India will 'mourn defeat of democracy' on Thursday as the BJP formed the Karnataka government despite lacking simple majority.

Gandhi said BJP was trying to mock the constitution by forming the government in Karnataka.

"The BJP’s irrational insistence that it will form a Govt. in Karnataka, even though it clearly doesn’t have the numbers, is to make a mockery of our Constitution. This morning, while the BJP celebrates its hollow victory, India will mourn the defeat of democracy.," Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

Despite lacking simple majority, the BJP has formed its minority government under the leadership of Yeddyurappa. The saffron outfit got 104 seats as against Congress's 78 and Janata Dal (Secular)'s 38.

With a post-poll alliance, the Congress-JD(S) combine are well over the majority mark (113).

However, a bench of Justice AK Sikri, Justice A Bobde and Justice Ashok Bhushan, which heard the plea, refused to put a stay on Yeddyurappa's oath taking ceremony in a midnight legal battle.

The top court will hear the case next on Friday.

Governor Vajubhai Vala gave BJP a period of 15 days to prove majority, said reports.
