Army pays tribute to soldier killed in Kashmir gunfight

Srinagar, Nov 15 (IBNS): The Indian Army on Wednesday paid homage to its soldier who was martyred in gunfight with militants at Kund Nowbug area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday.

In a solemn ceremony at Badami Bagh in Srinagar, Lt Gen JS Sandhu, Corps Commander, Chinar Corps and all ranks paid homage to the slain soldier.

“In a show of solidarity, officials and representatives from the State Government and other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the slain soldier,” said a handout issued by the Army on Wednesday.

Late Sepoy Manjinder Singh sustained bullet injury during the fierce operation at Waltingu Kund in Kulgam District.

He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital, but succumbed to the injuries.

The young soldier Manjinder Singh was 22 years old and had donned the uniform in 2015.

He hailed from Village Banwala of Mansa district in Punjab. He is survived by his parents.

The mortal remains of the slain soldier were flown for last rites to his native place, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours.
