Guwahati/IBNS: As the state has witnessed a sharp spike in the number of COVID-19 cases and many patients in hospitals are in critical condition, Assam police brought a ray of hope for the sick as 67 police personnel, cured of the infection, donated their plasma.

In a function held at Guwahati Medical College Hospital, the police personnel donated their plasma for the treatment of critical Covid patients.

Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma felicitated the police personnel who came forward to donate their plasma.

“The Khaki stands for sacrifice & compassion! Tue to the spirit, 67 recovered police personnel came forwards to donate their #plasma. So very proud to have felicitated them in presence of @Pijush_hazarika @DGPAssamPolice, Pr Secy @samirsinha69 & other officials," tweeted Sarma.

Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said over 1500 police personnel have been infected with the virus and out of them more than 1000 have recovered from the disease.

“About 300 police personnel, who already recovered, have rejoined their duties and out of them 67 personnel have donated their plasma today. We appeal the people of the state to come forward to donate plasma and help the critical patients. We have opened a help desk also,” Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said.

Assam has more than 40,000 COVID-19 positive cases and 98 patients have succumbed to the illness so far.
