Assam cabinet decides to amend bill for allowing inter-district cattle transportation

Guwahati/IBNS: The Assam cabinet on Friday decided to amend a bill to allow transportation of cattle from one district to another in the state.

However the state cabinet decided that the cattle transportation will not be allowed in the districts shared with the international border.

The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

“The Assam Cattle Preservation Bill, 2021 will be amended in the forthcoming winter session of the Assam assembly. The decision was taken following reports that people are facing difficulty in transporting cattle from one district to another,” Assam Irrigation minister Ashok Singhal said.

The state cabinet decided to set up four new Forensic laboratories in the state before April 2022, temporary appointment of 14 Scientific Officers and 1 Junior Scientific Officers against existing vacant posts in Directorate of Forensic Science.

The Assam cabinet approved recruitment in 139 Grade-III and Grade-IV posts (1004 Grade-III posts, 377 Grade-IV posts and 10 vacant posts of driver) in Panchayat and Rural Development department, posts of Joint Director and Deputy Director to be re-designed as Joint Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner respectively, approved to the statute of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeva Viswavidyalaya (Amendment) Bill, 2021, approval to bill for ‘The Assam Direct Recruitment Commissions for Analogous Posts in Class-III and Class-IV Act, 2021.

Other cabinet decisions are – licenses issued PDS retailers to be valid for 3 years, two members from All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) to be added in the Trust set up for welfare of Assam Agitation victims and their families, guest faculty to be engaged in Elementary and Secondary government, provincialised and other government institutional run schools, service period of guest faculty will be for an academic year, guest faculty can be engaged by alumni associations, NGOs, etc., powers and functions of State Level Police Accountability Commission to be made consonance with the judgement of the Supreme Court dated September 22, 2006 in Prakash Singh & Others vs Union of India and Others case and Assam Police Act, 2007 to be amended for this purpose, scheme for engagement of consultants in 27 districts under Integrated Land Record Management System (ILRMS) to be revamped.
