Assam excise dept destroys over 6 lakh liquor bottles worth of Rs 168.54 crore

Guwahati, Aug 10 (IBNS): The Assam excise department on Friday destroyed over 6 lakh seized liquor bottles worth of Rs 168.54 crore.

The huge quantity of seized liquor bottles were crushed under a road roller at Garchuk area, in the outskirts of Guwahati in the presence of Assam excise minister Parimal Suklabaidya.

The Bureau of Investigations Economic Offences (BIEO) of Assam police seized a huge quantity of illegal IMFL and beer bottles around 17,410 cases from four different places at Khatkhati area in Karbi Anglong district in 2016.

The estimated cost of the seized liquor is Rs 168,54,31,349.

The BIEO registered four cases in this regard and arrested 13 persons .

On Friday, the Assam excise department destroyed the seized liquor bottles as per the direction of the court.
