Assam flood: Over 24.68 lakh people still affected

Guwahati/IBNS: Assam flood situation has slightly improved, but over 24.68 lakh people of 22 districts are still affected in the deluge.

The flood waters are receding in many parts of the state but the Brahmaputra river is still flowing above danger level mark at Neamatighat in Jorhat district, Tezpur in Sonitpur district, Goalpara and Dhubri district.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Nearly 4.70 lakh people are affected in Goalpara district followed by 3.95 lakh people in Barpeta district, 3.33 lakh people in Morigaon district, 2.78 lakh people in Dhubri district, 2.50 lakh people in South Salmara district, 1.28 lakh people in Nagaon district, 1.01 lakh people in Kamrup (Metro) district are affected in the current wave of flood.

On the other hand, five persons drowned in flood waters in past 24 hours taking the state's death toll to 102.

Two each died in Barpeta and Kokrajhra district while one died in Morigaon district.

Nearly 1.10 lakh hectares of crop land of 2,252 villages in the flood hit districts are currently under water.

46,653 people are currently taking shelter at 267 relief camps.

Over 14 lakh domestic animals are also affected in the deluge in the state.
