Assam: Police seize 5 kg of heroin worth Rs 25 crore

Guwahati/IBNS: Police have seized a large quantity of heroin worth over Rs 25 crore in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.

Police have also arrested the driver of a truck where the illegal drug was recovered.

Police said that the illegal drug was transported from Manipur.

Based on an intelligence input, a police team of Karbi Anglong district had intercepted a truck bearing registration number AS-01KC-4951 at Lahorijan area in the hill district and the truck was coming from Dimapur side in Nagaland heading towards Guwahati.

During the search operation, the police team recovered 5.05 kg heroin which were kept hidden in the truck.

Police have arrested the driver of the truck identified as Ismail Ali and recovered Rs 50,000 cash in possession from him.

Earlier on Sept 25, Karbi Anglong district police had arrested three people and seized brown sugar, yaba tablets worth over Rs 5 crore at Manja area in the district.
