Guwahati, Nov 10 (IBNS): In the wake of the decision of Union government to cease the legal tender character of the old high denominations currency notes of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 in respect of all receipts and payments, the revenue collection departments like Taxation, Transport, Excise, Forest, etc. under the Assam government are unable to accept such old high denominations currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs.1000 with effect from midnight of Nov 8.

Hence, Finance (budget) department of Assam government has requested all Revenue collection departments to collect Revenue through online payment system and also through the Bank Draft, Cheque and other Bank instruments where online payment is not available.

In a statement, the Assam Finance department said that they can continue to collect the amount in other than the old high denominations currency notes of Rs.500 and Rs.1000.

Finance department has already signed MOU with the State Bank of India and all departments should coordinate with SBI Dispur for commissioning online payment if not already initiated.
