Assembly polls: Voting begins in Maharashtra, Haryana
Mumbai/Chandigarh/IBNS: In the first major polls since the Lok Sabha elections took place earlier this year, people in Maharashtra and Haryana are voting to elect new Assemblies in the states on Monday.
Apart from these two states, by-elections are also being held in 51 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha constituencies spread across 17 states and one Union territory.
Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi urged people to turnout in record numbers and enrich the festival of democracy.
He hoped that young people of the states cast their votes in record number.

Both Haryana and Maharashtra are currently ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
In the 288-seat Maharashtra assembly, BJP is fighting on 150 seats and its ally Shiv Sena is battling out in 124 constituencies.
Congress is in alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the state and both of them are fighting in 125 seats each.
They have left 40 seats to other parties.
BJP is contesting in 90 assembly constituencies in Haryana alone.
Haryana CM Manohar Khattar on Monday morning urged people to cast their votes.
The key battle in the state is between the Congress and the BJP.
The result of the polls will be announced on Oct 24.
