Avalanche kills one soldier, injures another near LOC

Srinagar, Jan 3 (IBNS): A soldier was killed while another was injured in an avalanche in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Thursday.

According to reports, the avalanche hit an army post in the Sawjian sector along the Line of Control and two soldiers came under it.

“A search operation was started immediately and the duo trapped under snow were evacuated,” Hindustan Times quoted an army official as saying.

One of them died on the spot. The other is undergoing treatment.

The deceased soldier has been identified as Lance Naik Sapan Mehra. The injured soldier is sepoy Harpreet Singh.
