Bangladesh: 12th Foundation Day of Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) celebrated in Dhaka

Dhaka: Indian High Commissioner Vikram K. Doraiswami inaugurated the event with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp.

In his speech, he highlighted the importance of the cultural centre to foster and strengthen cultural exchanges between India and Bangladesh and promote people to people connect.

The event was celebrated with mesmerising performances by IGCC students and teachers.

"As a special section, IGCC students paid tribute to three great stalwarts of the Music world Bharat Ratna Late Lata Mangeshkar ji, Late Singer Gitashree Sandhya Mukhopadhyay ji, and Late Singer-composer Bappi Lahiri ji who passed away last month," read a statement issued by the Indian High Commission Dhaka.

The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre at Dhanmondi, Dhaka was formally inaugurated on March 11, 2010 by Dr. Karan Singh, then President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, along with  Abul Kalam Azad, then Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh.

The Centre promotes bilateral cultural linkages between India and Bangladesh by organizing cultural programmes, cultural seminars, workshops and trainings engaging India based Gurus professionals and trainers for Yoga, Hindi, Indian classical Vocal Music and Indian Dances.
