Bangladesh: Interim government cancels training programme for 50 judges in India amid strain in ties

| @indiablooms | Jan 05, 2025, at 08:38 pm

The Interim government in Bangladesh has cancelled the training of 50 judges from the country in India amid deteriorating relationship between the two neighbours since the fall of former PM Sheikh Hasina-led government in August last year.

The government scrapped a previous order concerning the training of judicial officials in India.

"The cancellation came in compliance with directives from the Supreme Court of Bangladesh," The Daily Star reported.

According to Bangladeshi media reports, the training was scheduled to take place at the National Judicial Academy in Bhopal and a State Judicial Academy from Feb 10-20.

The Bangladeshi Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs did not specify reasons for the cancellation of the training.

Ties between India and Bangladesh touched low points last year following the fall of former PM Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5 amid severe protests against her government over a job quota issue.

Hasina fled to India, ending her 16-year rule in the South Asian nation.

There was also a spike in attacks on Hindu community members and their temples and other properties ever since the Hasina government collapsed in the country.
