New Delhi, Jul 2 (IBNS): In an explosive statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday said some madrasas in West Bengal are preaching religious extremism and helping Bangladeshi terror outfits like Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, media reports said.

The ministry shared this information during its reply on reports that madrassas in Bengal are being used by terror outfits to preach "radicalisation and aid in recruitment activities".

It also revealed that several madrasas in Burdwan and Murshidabad are being used for terror-related activities.

The Centre said that it has shared the relevant inputs with the state government.

"Government has notified Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh or Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen India or Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Hindustan and all its manifestations as a Terrorist Organization on 23.05.2019 in terms of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967," the Ministry reportedly said.

Meanwhile,  the Special Task Force of the West Bengal Police arrested a member of the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen from the Burdwan district on Tuesday.

According to reports, the accused has been arrested in connection with January 2018 Bodh Gaya blast.

The Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen is a terrorist organisation having links with Pakistani terror group Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT).

The organisation was allegedly involved in 2016 attack in a cafe in Bangladesh's capital city Dhaka.

Earlier there were also reports that Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen was planning to establish its base within 10 km along the Bangladesh border in several districts of West Bengal, Assam and Tripura.
