| | Feb 02, 2017, at 10:02 pm
Raipur, Feb 2 (IBNS) : SRP Kalluri, the controversial police chief of Chhatisgarh's Bastar region, has proceeded on long leave amid reports of his threats to rights activists, media reports said.

Kalluri had reportedly applied for leave for a kidney transplant.

His junior Sundar Raj has been asked to take charge.

Inspector  General Kalluri, who is stated to be a menace for Maoists in the extremist-dominated district, has been accused of targeting activists working in Bastar.

Activists, lawyers and human rights activists have allegedly received abusive and threatening messages, apparently from phone numbers belonging to the officer.

Human rights groups and activists have been demanding removal of  Kalluri, alleging blatant human rights violations by the security forces in the region.
