Kolkata/UNI: With the wailing of the bereaved family members of those killed in the gruesome explosion at an illegal cracker factory renting the air, West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday visited the affected Khadikul village under the Sahara Panchayat Area at Egra in East Midnapore district and strongly vouched for a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to uncover the truth behind the incident.

At least nine persons lost their lives while several were fighting for their lives in hospital.

The village turned into a mourning ground with the heart-rendering scene of the bereaved family members making fervent appeals to Adhikari to look into the matter.

The villagers aggrieved over the incident went furious and vented their ire about the local police's role for allowing the illegal factory to thrive and alleged that police were hand in gloves with the perpetrators of crime.

Assuring the villagers of action against the culprits, Adhikari demanded NIA investigation into the incident and batted for Central Forensic Lab as he expressed his apprehension that the evidence could be tampered.

The BJP MLA from Nandigram demanded the resignation of the State Police Minister, also the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee for the incident.

He also informed that he has already sought Calcutta High Court permission for NIA probe into the explosion and demanded that the State Government will have to fork out Rs Ten Lac as compensation instead of Rs 2.5 Lac.

Earlier, he tweeted, "The Khadikul Village is the cursed place where the gruesome explosion yesterday resulted in charred body parts lying scattered in a grisly manner. "

Referring to Banerjee's presser on Tuesday, he said, " WB CM @MamataOfficial who's also the HM was rambling while addressing the press today, regarding the Explosion at Egra. "

" 3 weird theories could be deduced from her disoriented muddled blabbering:- a) The place of incident is near the Odisha Border. This isn't her sole responsibility. b) 2 months ago the Panchayat which had a TMC majority, was taken over by the BJP and an independent candidate was elected as the Pradhan. c) The perpetrator/accused was arrested by the Police earlier but the Court granted him bail. Also, why was he arrested if he (accused) is a TMC member? " Adhikari questioned.
