Moyna/East Medinipur/IBNS: Two days ahead of the second phase of West Bengal assembly polls, former Indian cricketer and BJP candidate from Moyna assembly seat, Ashoke Dinda, was attacked and his vehicle was vandalized allegedly by TMC workers near Moyna Bazar in East Medinipur district on Tuesday evening, reports said.

According to reports, when Dinda was returning after completing his election campaign, a mob of TMC supporters attacked his convoy.

Ashoke Dinda and few others in his convoy were injured in the incident.

Following the incident, the former seamer Ashoke Dinda took shelter in a local BDO office and later police rescued him.

"After completing poll campaign, we were returning home and suddenly TMC supporters at a large number attacked our convoy without any provocation," Ashoke Dinda said.

"They threw bricks aiming at my vehicle and after breaking a window-glass, a brick hit my shoulder," Dinda added.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has sought a report on the alleged attack on Ashoke Dinda.

Local TMC leaders denied their involvement in the incident.
