Kolkata/IBNS: A student of Kolkata's Aliah University, who was one of the faces of anti-CAA and anti-NRC protests in the city two years ago, died after being pushed off the roof of his own house on Friday midnight allegedly by four people who introduced themselves as policemen.

Family members of the student leader, Anish Khan, alleged that four men, wearing police uniforms, came to their house located at Dakshin Khan Para under Amta Police Station in Howrah district of West Bengal on Friday midnight, and three of them forcibly took Anish to the roof and pushed him to death.

The 28-year-old student leader, who recently joined the Indian Secular Front (ISF), was rushed to a local hospital after the four men left his house. However, he was declared 'brought dead' at the health facility.

"Three of them were wearing the uniform of civic volunteers, and one was wearing the state police's uniform and he was carrying a firearm like a police officer. They said they were from Amta Police Station and wanted to talk to Anish in connection with an old case registered with Bagnan Police Station," Anish Khan's elder brother said.

"The man wearing the state police's uniform was with us and threatened us showing his firearm not to interfere in their investigation, while the  three others in civic volunteer uniforms forcibly took Anish to the roof and then we heard a loud sound," he added.

After the four men left the house, Anish's family members found his body lying in a pool of blood beside their house.

A senior official at the Amta Police Station said no policeman went to Anish's house on Friday and there was no complaint against the student leader registered with the police station in the last five days.

"We have initiated a probe into the matter, and police are trying to identify those involved in the crime," the official said.

Meanwhile, demanding justice in the incident, hundreds of students on Saturday evening held a protest in south Kolkata's Park Circus area and scuffled with the police force.
