New Delhi, Jan 9 (IBNS): The digital payment app, BHIM, which was launched on Dec 30 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Dec 30 has seen over 10 million downloads in 10 days, the Prime Minister's Office said on Monday.

Happy with the number of downloads, the PM himself tweeted on Monday, "Delighted to know that in a span of 10 days there have been over 10 million downloads of the BHIM App. BHIM App has made transactions faster & easier, thus making it popular among the youth. The App is also beneficial for traders."

"The BHIM App is a fine example of Make in India & how technology is being effectively used to end the menace of corruption & black money,"  the Prime Minister said on Monday.

The new e-wallet app, a common  platform for the United Payment Interface (UPI) has been named after the maker of the Indian constitution Dr BR Ambedkar.

During the launch, the PM had said, "Furthering digital connectivity would do wonders for our nation," he said.

The BHIM app was launched on the final day of the deadline to submit the banned currency notes of rupees five hundred and one thousand.
