Bhojshala sanctum: Saraswati idol installed following HC order, poster outside bans entry of non-Hindus
Members of the Bhoj Utsav Samiti, along with a large number of Hindu devotees, installed an idol of Goddess Saraswati inside the Bhojshala complex in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, days after the Madhya Pradesh High Court ruled that the Bhojshala Temple–Kamal Maula Mosque site in Dhar is a temple.
Before the installation, devotees performed rituals on the premises, including the sprinkling of Ganga water and cow urine for purification. An “Akhand Jyoti” (eternal flame) was also lit and placed within the sanctum.
The development comes after the High Court on Friday set aside a 2003 Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) directive that had permitted Muslims to offer namaz at the site.

The BHOJSHALA is a metaphor for modern Indian "secularism" that has equated any attempt at reclaiming the grandeur of Hindu civilization with naked communalism. But fortunately the HC order has ensured that 95-year-old Vimal Godha from Dhar, who fought… pic.twitter.com/4D9YBiUpKJ
The verdict was delivered by a division bench of Justice Vijay Kumar Shukla and Justice Alok Awasthi.
The court observed that historical records, archaeological findings, and literary references collectively support the site’s identification as a Saraswati temple associated with Raja Bhoj, the Paramara ruler credited with developing Dhar as a major centre of Sanskrit learning.
Following the ruling, a poster was reportedly placed outside the complex restricting entry for non-Hindus.
According to Bhojshala Utsav Samiti member Gopal Sharma, entry is allowed only for those wearing a tilak and a saffron scarf, citing security considerations.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav welcomed the High Court’s decision, stating on X that the recognition of Bhojshala as a protected monument and a place of worship of Maa Vagdevi was a “significant moment” in honouring cultural heritage, faith, and history.

He added that the dignity of Bhojshala would be strengthened under ASI supervision and that devotees’ right to worship would be ensured, describing the court’s order as “commendable.”
