Patna: Tension is still simmering in Bihar despite multiple arrests and strong vigil by law enforcement agencies following the violence that erupted on Thursday and continued till Saturday night surrounding Ram Navami celebrations, media reports said.

Fresh violence was reported in Rohtas and Nalanda districts on Saturday.

The rioters went on a rampage, torching houses and destroying public property, in communal clashes following Ram Navami in Biharsharif and Sasaram in Bihar.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has called off his tour of Sasaram in Bihar where prohibitory orders are in place following communal tension sparked off during Ram Navami festivities, state BJP chief Samrat Choudhary said on Saturday.

Following clashes between two groups in Bihar's Nalanda, Section 144 was enforced, and massive security was deployed. As a result of the violence, more than 20 suspects were arrested, eight sustained injuries, and three were hit by bullets.

After fresh violence, police arrested 112 people in Bihar Sharif and Nalanda.

Amid the turbulent law and order situation, all government and private schools as well as coaching institutes will remain shut till April 4.

Six people were injured in a bomb blast in Sasaram’s Rohtas in Bihar allegedly while handling illegal explosives on Saturday. Police have arrested four people in connection with the blast that occurred on Saturday evening in the Sherganj locality.

As per reports, there were 12 rounds of firing in Paharpur and 6 rounds in Kashi Takiya, in which three people were injured and were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Several police personnel also sustained injuries in stone pelting during the communal flare-up.

Following the violence on Friday, Section 144 had been implemented by the local administration in Biharsharif. While the situation remained peaceful on Saturday throughout the day, there were incidents of firing between two groups in various areas of Biharsharif later in the evening.
