Chandigarh, Dec 29 (IBNS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) started its campaigns for the Punjab Assembly elections on Thursday with the Vijay Sankalp Rath Yatra from Hussainiwala, according to media sources.

The eight-day campaign will conclude on Jan 8 in Amritsar with a rally which the Union Finance Minsiter Arun Jaitley is expected to address, local reports said.

The Vijay Sankalp Rath, a hi-tech bus, will visit all the 23 constituencies from where the BJP is contesting in Punjab.

The bus has a hydraulic ladder and a platform from where leaders can address the public. Other features include an LED screen, laptops and printers a space for holding meeting, an area for taking rest and an attached toilet.

According to Jagran.com, the bus was first used by Rajnath Singh in 2006 for his Bharat Suraksha Yatra; it was also used by Rajasthan chief minister Vijay Raje Scindia for her state elections. The bus was lying idle in the party headquarters in Delhi until it was decided to be used in the Punjab election campaign.
