BJP set to retain Uttar Pradesh, AAP sweeps Punjab

| @indiablooms | Mar 10, 2022, at 04:47 pm

As predicted by the exit polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is looking set for a second consecutive assembly win in Uttar Pradesh but with a reduced margin while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has swept the northern state of Punjab inflicting a crushing defeat on the Congress.

As per the latest trends, the BJP is leading in 260 seats while the Samajwadi Party (SP) is ahead in 124 seats.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Congress, which have ruled the states earlier, are leading in six and three seats respectively.

In Punjab, the AAP, led by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is leading in 89 seats while the Congress is lagging behind with just 13 seats.

The win would undoubtedly catapult Kejriwal to national politics with the AAP ruling Delhi and now assuming power for the first time in Punjab.

Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, current Chief Minister and Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi are all trailing.
